Premier Doug Ford says the Province will launch an enhanced action plan to fight Covid-19 in long term care homes tomorrow (WED).
In the meantime, the Province will move to deploy specialized teams of healthcare workers into affected homes during serious coronavirus outbreaks.
Ford says despite best efforts, Covid-19 is “spreading like a wildfire” in the homes. There are over 500 LTC homes in Ontario and Ford says 34 are seeing infections.
A new emergency order will also come in effect tonight, he added, which will limit LTC staff to working in only one home at a time, in order to curb the potential spread of the virus.
Ford adds that we haven’t seen the anticipated surge in hospitals that had been expected and some resources from that sector could be redeployed to aid long term care homes.
