Saugeen Shores has appointed an acting fire chief.
Brian Johnston was named to the position at Monday night’s council meeting for a period of up to six months, with an option to extend by an additional two months, as needed while a formal recruitment process is undertaken to replace the Town’s Fire Chief.
Johnston will replace Phil Eagleson who is taking on the job of Fire Chief for the City of Owen Sound.
Johnston began his career with the Southampton Fire Department in 1980. He rose through the ranks, becoming a Captain and was promoted the Southampton District Station Chief in 2007.
He Joined the Guelph fire department in 2000 where in addition to being a firefighter, he was a certified HazMat Technician.
He has experience in Fire Code inspections and enforcement, public education and fire origin and cause investigations.
In 2019, was hired by the Town of Saugeen Shores as a full time Training Officer.
