Second World War Veteran Charles Fisher of Owen Sound has passed away at 107 years old.
An obituary posted online by the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home says Fisher passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on December 18th.
He was born in London, England, on November 5th, 1914.
According to the Billy Bishop Home and Museum, Fisher served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and was attached to the 5th Canadian Armoured Division. He fought in Italy and was then transferred to Northwest Europe with the 5th Canadian Armoured Division to participate in the liberation of the Netherlands.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home in Owen Sound on Wednesday, December 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m., with a Royal Canadian Legion Service at 3:45 p.m. All attendees must provide proof of double COVID vaccination and wear a mask. A private service will follow and a video recording will be posted to Charles’ memorial webpage.
His obituary says memorial donations to the Owen Sound Legion Branch 6, The Billy Bishop Museum, St. George’s Anglican Church, or charity of choice would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
