Northern Bruce Peninsula council is entering an agreement with the Golden Dawn Senior Citizen Home for shuttle services in Lion’s Head.
During a council meeting on June 27, a report was brought forward by CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-West to approve shuttle services within the area starting July 1, and end Oct. 16.
Mierlo-West says the service, unlike last year, will run strictly as a shuttle service and will be making stops every half hour at the arena, the marina, the beach, the McCurdy parking lot, and the downtown core.
“Anybody can jump on it for free and go to any other additional spots within Lion’s Head,” says Mierlo-West.
The report says the hourly rate for eight hours a day will be $1,100, which Mierlo-West says will be entirely funded by the municipality. She adds the funds will come from the parking lot reserves and revenues. The estimated operating cost for the year is about $66,000.
The report adds staff believe it may be beneficial to provide the service three days a week for eight hours.
Mierlo-West says the service will run every Friday to Sunday until Oct. 16, and on long weekends, they will also include a Monday shuttle service.
The report says the service plans on using a vehicle which has the capacity for 16 passengers and two wheelchairs.
“We are excited to be partnering with Golden Dawn to provide the Lion’s Head shuttle service from the weekend of July until Labour Day weekend. The shuttle will reduce congestion in the parking in our downtown core, and provide an improved tourist experience,” says Mierlo-West.
