Kurtis MacDermid, a defenceman with the Stanley Cup winning Colorado Avalanche, had his day with the Stanley Cup and showcased the Cup in front of a throng of people at the main intersection in his hometown of Sauble Beach
Here’s audio from the ceremony.
That’s South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff and Stanley Cup winner Kurtis MacDermid of the Colorado Avalanche.
Tradition dictates that every member of the Stanley Cup champions gets a ” day ” with the Cup, and today MacDermid who grew up in Sauble Beach, played hockey at Shallow Lake and later with the Owen Sound Greys and Attack, brought the trophy to his hometown for a large reception at the corner of Lakeshore Boulevard & Main Street.
The Stanley Cup also made a stop at the Shallow Lake Arena this morning to visit the Shallow Lake Minor Hockey Association on its way to Sauble Beach.
Minor Hockey Association President Michelle Roebuck says, “This was such an exciting opportunity for our young athletes,” adding, “It shows our youth the value of hard work and commitment, and that anything is possible.”
