Grey County and the YMCA Owen Sound Grey Bruce received an award as a part of the Economic Developers Council of Ontario Conference that was held in Toronto.
The workforce development initiative is a collaboration between Grey County Economic Development, YMCA Employment Services, and Georgian College.
They also worked with Adult Learning Centres, and all 19 public and private long-term care homes in Grey and Bruce Counties.
The purpose is to address the struggle to attract and retain staff to the long-term care sector by helping job seekers have fulfilling careers in healthcare.
The program is meant to not only recruit and retain staff in local homes but also to provide those individuals and families with a stable income, all while gaining skills.
The EDCO Awards of Excellence recognize unit ideas that lead to economic development best practices for the future.
The Local Workforce Development Initiative is available at the Sydenham Campus.
