An information night about a new mental health and addictions centre is set for this week in Port Elgin.
The centre is being developed by Grey Bruce Health Services, which runs many of the region’s hospitals, and now will run an expanded treatment centre in Owen Sound.
The information night is set to be held at the Nuclear Innovation Institute on Wednesday, August 2nd from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation says it will be an informal evening of information sharing from Grey Bruce Health Services staff. There will be a short presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions.
Corey Phair, who is a local community member will also share his story about mental health and addiction recovery. He now volunteers with community organizations, speaks at events, and also runs a fitness and recovery business.
The new treatment centre will be located at the former Bayview Public School on 6th Street A East in Owen Sound and will be geared to support people with mental health and addiction needs.
The project is the first of its kind in the region, and will be able to accommodate both inpatient and outpatient services for residents across Grey Bruce.
Last year, Grey Bruce Health Services received $6 million in funding from the Ministry of Health to add 36 beds for the growing number of people in the region who need addiction and mental health services.
