A Pike Bay resident is planning on walking the Bruce Peninsula this week to raise money for the Lion’s Head Hospital.
Wendell Thompson says he will head out for his about 60 kilometre walk Monday morning, starting in Tobermory and end in Pike Bay, aiming to raise $20,000.
“Everybody needs help, especially hospitals because they are always advertising for donations,” says Thompson.
He says he first thought of the walk to raise funds for the hospital about two years ago, and has now decided to follow through, adding he has been going on regular walks to train.
“I am going to try to put on 20 kilometres on tomorrow (Monday), whether I do or not, I am going to try it. I am going to do the whole thing in three days,” says Thompson.
Thompson says for him, the walk is important as it gives back for the service he has received.
“Ever since I was a baby, I have been handicapped all my life, all the right side of me. The hospitals have done so much. They couldn’t do so much back then because they didn’t have the all the equipment to work at. So I got thinking that there is really one way of doing it, they need the equipment to do it, to help people no matter what shape they are in. I am going to try and give them help back,” says Thompson.
He says before even going out on the walk, he has so far raised $10,000 for the hospital.
