The Town of Saugeen Shores is kicking off its 25th Anniversary of the amalgamation of Southampton, Port Elgin, and Saugeen Township.
At 1 this afternoon, council will be joined by past mayors, council members and civic leaders in council chambers at a meeting to lay out the Town’s 25th anniversary activities.
Marking the milestone will include a weekend of celebration and activities in August, (9-11) a couple of anniversary driving tours, and a time capsule project which is expected to start this month and will call on the community to submit photos and memories of life in the town.
A staff report says the chest will be housed at the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre where it will be reopened in 2049.
The August celebration weekend is set to include fireworks, a pancake breakfast, lots of kids and family activities, live music and a street dinner and dance.
So far the Town has a couple of sponsors for the big celebration, but it’s looking for more. Those who are interested can find out more on the Town’s Website at www.saugeenshores.ca/25th.
