Scholarships are now open from Bruce Power to assist students aiming to become early childhood educators.
The energy company says these scholarships are returning for the second year in a row to help students make their way through early childhood education programs in Bruce County.
Last year, these scholarships were presented to 13 students pursuing a career in early childhood education to offset the costs of going for their certification.
Bruce Power’s Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Karen Smith says access to childcare continues to be a struggle for families in the region.
“Last year, our scholarships helped students in our area who will become our future childhood educators and we’re hoping this program will help to alleviate this issue going forward,” says Smith.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be registered as a first-year student in an early childhood education program or advanced early childhood education program, and submit a short 250 word essay indicating why they want to be a registered early childhood educator and work in Bruce County. The essay can be submitted to bnpddiversityequityandinclusion@brucepower.com.
Applications will be accepted until Sept. 30, with scholarships awarded by Oct. 31.
