The Young Guns Intermediate Ladies Broomball team is made up of players from the Owen Sound area and they won regionals on the weekend.
The Central West Ontario Broomball Regionals were held in Palmerston this past weekend. The Young Guns Ladies broomball team — made up of players from the Owen Sound area — attended hoping to place in one of the top 4 positions to qualify to play at Provincials in Fergus this coming March.
They did better than qualified, they came first in Intermediate Ladies division. Friday night, the Guns had a great game beating Rampage out of Blyth. With a power play goal by Astelle Wardell, Catherine Dodds tipped in a 2nd and Lyndsie Greig scored to make it 3-0. Jill Moffatt walking away with a shut out!
Returning for their second game Saturday coming up against Moonshiners form Palmerston. Guns got another 3 berries, a beauty goal assisted by Shauna Ottewell over to Rachel Mallette to put it in. A power play goal with a shot by Amanda Zettle to Jacey Lisk with a beauty tip and to end it with an open net goal by Shauna! Jill Moffatt securing another shut out!
For their third game they had to be back on the ice at 7am Sunday morning, facing The Bandits from Blyth. During the main game-time the Guns smothered the goalie with all kinds of shots on net but not able to squeak one by the goalie, which pushed them into OT. Fifteen seconds in Shauna Ottewell punches it in the net giving the Guns a 1-0 win and Jill walking away yet with another shut out. This now put them into the final game waiting to see who their opponent will be – they ended up coming up against The Bandits once again. This time they did it during the main play with a pass from Shauna Ottewell over to Rachel Mallette to score winning 1-0 against the Bandits. Jill Moffatt walked away from the tournament with 4 shut outs and the Young Guns taking first place.
They will now be heading to Provincials March 15-17 in Fergus.
