Bruce Power has donated $500,000 to the planned new aquatic and wellness centre in Saugeen Shores.
The Town has a campaign called ‘Just add water’ to raise funds for the new pool and gym set to be built beside the Plex in Port Elgin.
At an event on Tuesday night, John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community, Media Relations & Economic Development presented Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau with a cheque for $500,000.
Peevers said in a statement, “While we may be known for producing clean, reliable electricity for Ontario and producing cancer-fighting medical isotopes used worldwide, we are also deeply committed to sponsoring important local initiatives that improve the health, wellness and vibrancy of the community in which we operate.”
The aquatic and wellness centre will have an eight-lane pool, walking track and a fitness and wellness centre.
At $50 million, the Town says it is one of its biggest capital projects to date and will serve as a regional recreational hub for decades to come.
The initial Just Add Water campaign is looking to raise about $3 million.
