A Public Open House to learn about Saugeen Shores’ waste management plan project is set to go this evening from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Southampton Town Hall.
The plan aims to ensure the community’s future waste disposal needs will be met.
The Town says it’s projected capacity at the Southampton Landfill will be exhausted in roughly the next 6 to 8 years.
It’s expected over a 40 year planning period there will be a need to accommodate about one-million cubic meters of landfill capacity.
An environmental assessment planning process will look at options to deal with that demand.
They could include optimizing capacity at the Town’s existing landfill, creating a new landfill, considering alternative waste management technologies, or shipping garbage elsewhere.
