One of the founding members of the Marine Heritage Society (MHS) is being given a prestigious volunteer award.
Chair of the Board of the MHS in Saugeen Shores Wayne Kaufman says Board Member Vicki Tomori has been named one of the recipients of the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism in Ontario this past week, an award presented to only 14 people annually.
“She has a huge commitment to Marine Heritage Society. As you can tell from the 20 years plus that she has been involved with us, it’s a commitment to better our community of Saugeen Shores and she is fully behind that, making it a better place to live, tour and enjoy,” says Kaufman.
Kaufman explains Tomori’s volunteerism goes back to 1997 to the creation of the MHS, and currently holds the distinction of being its longest-serving original member as well as also serving the Propeller Club.
Communications Board Member Deb Kaufman adds, “Vicki has been very instrumental in getting a number of special events and projects going with the Marine Heritage, and if she is not the organizer, she more often assists as well in the various aspects. She is a very busy volunteer with the Marine Heritage Society and the Propeller Club.”
Among the many projects and events Tomori is involved with, her work includes organizing the boat tours to Chantry Island.
“We are very proud of her. She is an extremely active volunteer and we are proud that she was chosen as one of the 14 in Ontario to receive this prestigious award,” says Wayne.
The award acknowledges people who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and a strong commitment to volunteerism.
Tomori will be presented the award later next month.
