Northern Bruce Peninsula will be reviewing the rehabilitation work done to the Tobermory Community Centre well this week.
This comes after council approved authorizing Lotowater Technical Services Inc. during a meeting in October, 2023 to perform maintenance and inspection work on the well for over $23,000.
A report from Public Works Manager Troy Cameron says, “over the years, there have been many ongoing issues, with the well at the Tobermory Community Centre.”
The report adds the community centre well struggles with both the quantity and quality of water, and is impacted by heavy rainfall as well as snowmelt levels.
In addition to serving the community centre, the well also supplies the fire hall, EMS building, ball diamond concession stand and washroom, and the new washroom at the community centre parking lot.
From Jan. 22 to the 26, Lotowater Technical Services conducted field work at the well, which included cleaning and removing sediment.
Following the rehabilitation, a video inspection was conducted which found the well was in satisfactory conduction and was disinfected.
It is recommended the well and pumping equipment be scheduled for routine maintenance in five years for cleaning.
A maintenance program, including costs, will be presented during next year’s budget deliberations.
Council will review the rehabilitation work done at the Tobermory Community Centre well during its meeting on June 24 at 1 p.m.
