Owen Sound and the YMCA have a new 20-year operating agreement for the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre.
It’s essentially the same framework that’s been in place since the rec centre opened in 2012. The city will continue to own the entire facility, and the YMCA will remain a tenant which operates the health, fitness and aquatics centre, and other services.
City manager Tim Simmonds told councillors Monday the 20-year partnership with the YMCA would help the city avoid more than $14-million in operational and capital costs.
Simmonds notes the original agreement between the city and YMCA — entered in 2012 — had an option for the Y to purchase the space it was in at the end of the 10-year term. But, he says the YMCA decided to remain a tenant.
More to come…
