A new pop culture event is coming to Southampton.
The first, ever Bruce County Comicon is set to take place on Saturday, July 13th from 11 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southampton Coliseum.
There will be toys, cards, comics, collectibles, cosplay, door prizes and raffles.
Comicon organizer Julia Barac owns a collectibles business in Hamilton and recently bought a cottage in Southampton.
She takes her business to various trade shows and conferences and this year, she decided to set up a local comicon event.
Barac says, “To my knowledge there’s nothing really in the area, so I figured we’d just give it a shot and see how it goes.”
She says there will be things for the whole family to check out, describing it as, “Everything pop culture kind of collides into one,” adding, there are 130 vendors selling collectibles, trading cards, sports cards, video games, all kinds of stuff, comic books.”
Barac says there are also going to be free activities including face painting, and the Southampton Art Bike will be there with free Comicon crafts.
Brampton Batman is going to be bringing his batmobile as well.
There will also be vendors with ice cream and bubble tea.
“It’s a great way to spend a nice summer day,” says Barac, noting it’s an all-ages event and admission is free.
