The Lamont Sports Park construction of 4 ball diamonds is progressing nicely, according to a report by Saugeen Shores Director of Community Services Jayne Jagelewski.
Committee of the Whole heard recently “There are a number of elements that have been included with the Phase 1 construction which will assist in the advancement of future phases. Phase 1 is anticipated to be completed by December 2021,”
The first phase includes, among other things, four ball diamonds with irrigation and lighting; connecting paths to the Rail Trail; Port-0-let washroom facilities that will be enhanced for future phases to a more permanent structure and parking with overflow.
The facility is not expected to be used before 2023.
The Kraft Heinz accessible playground equipment will not be put in until the fields are ready for play.
There was a question moving on to Phase 2 since a fundraising group is ready to start raising up to one-million-dollars.
Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt hopes staff will come back soon with a report that points out what the fundraising might cover in the second phase.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau states, “Having a fundraising committee necessitates we make some decisions (on phase two). We can’t send them out into the community to raise money and have no parameters around that because they may come back having raised money for things that council has no intention of building.”
