Northern Bruce Peninsula council is making some adjustments to its traffic and parking by-law, resulting in residents being given parking passes for free.
During a meeting on Feb. 13, a report was brought forward by Chief By-Law Officer Carol Hopkins. Among the many recommendations for maintaining status quo at a number of parking locations across the municipality, some changes coming include issuing parking passes to residents at no charge.
The parking passes will be given to those residing, renting or leasing residentially on a full-time, year-round basis in the municipality, with proof of residence being required in a form as well as a valid piece of photo I.D. Up to two parking passes per residential property will be issued by the municipality.
Additionally, the report says the municipality will retain the right to charge $50 for people requiring or requesting residential parking passes if they do not meet the requirements.
These recommendations come following two reports brought forward by Hopkins during a Dec. 12, 2022 meeting.
“Council approved the recommendation to include the amendments in the next review of the traffic by-law; however, it has been brought to the by-law department’s attention that clarification is required surrounding the issuance of residential parking passes for those residing with the municipality who can show proof of residency and those owning improved property but no living within the municipality,” says the report.
These recommendations have been included for consideration in the 2023 budget.
