His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) York is set to conduct small boat and deep drive training exercises in Tobermory this morning.
The deep drive training will be conducted by naval reserve sailors from Toronto between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Big Tub Road.
The Royal Canadian Navy says in a release, as a reserve division of the navy, the dive team could be tasked with various roles like engaging in underwater engineering, rescue swimming, and explosive ordinance identification.
Additionally, divers may be tasked with responding to natural disaster situations like floods, forest fires, ice storms, and hurricanes.
“To provide effective support, it is imperative that HMCS York divers train in every component of a complete dive evolution. This includes deployment, employment, and redeployment,” says the release.
