Kincardine Council has approved a development in Tiverton that will add 88 new homes.
The draft plan from Fast Holdings was given the green light at this week’s council meeting.
Mayor Kenneth Craig says that as council was discussing the final passing of the zoning by-law amendment for the development, the original decision to approve the plan was made during the previous session of council.
“The challenge for many of us in this application is that the public meeting was held prior to our election. So we understand the proposal, but we are perhaps not privy to some of the public comments or concerns.”
He then opened the floor to the three incumbent members of council — Deputy Mayor Andrea Clarke, and Councillors Doug Kennedy and Bill Stewart.
The three members of council who were present during the public meeting shared their input, saying that the plans for the development were easy to understand, and addressed issues that were brought up by members of the public.
The development is proposed for an 8.55-hectare lot on the south side of the town off Maple Street, and would include 26 single-detached houses, 22 semi-detached homes, and 40 townhouse lots.
It would also include stormwater conveyance and stormwater management lots.
With council’s approval for the development, it will need to be approved by Bruce County Council at a future meeting.
