Dolly the Christmas chicken has gone viral.
A video uploaded to Instagram by the owners of a family farm operation in the Owen Sound area of a Silkie chicken draped in Christmas lights has garnered more than 3-million views and over 128,000 likes since being shared earlier this month.
Sarah and Luke Best of Brooke & Willow Farm, northwest of Owen Sound, put the fun holiday video together. They live on the farm with their three daughters Lucy, 9, Anna, 6, and Carys, 3.
Best says the family was getting out their Christmas decorations when Lucy found some really tiny lights, and thought they would look nice decorating a chicken.
“At first we thought, don’t know if this is going to work,” Sarah recalls. “But, we draped them over her and it actually looked really pretty. So we thought, let’s take a little video of it.”
They shared it to the Brooke & Willow Farm Instagram page and the video took off from there. Millions of people have taken a peak at Dolly standing on a post with colourful lights shining through her feathers, as Michael Bublé’s version of It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas plays in the background.
Best says many Silkie chicken owners have been commenting, others have asked how they did it, and there was even someone who wondered if Dolly ate the Christmas lights.
“We try to reassure everyone, no one was harmed in the process of making the video,” Best chuckles.
Best says Silkie chickens are a breed known for their love of attention, and Dolly’s been enjoying the spotlight.
“She absolutely loves it. That’s part of the beauty of this breed,” Best explains.
