Bruce County Council was able to celebrate the retirement of CAO Derrick Thomson.
During this week’s council meeting, Warden Chris Peabody took a moment to thank Thomson for his service to the county, and to recognize the 43-year career that brought him to his last day on the job.
Thomson was able to say a few words, thanking his colleagues for a successful and memorable time in Bruce County.
“I’d just like to take an opportunity to thank Bruce County staff for all their support as we certainly worked through a number of different projects and initiatives while I’ve been here.”
Thomson took over as the county’s chief administrative officer in April 2022, and during his time in the role was able to help reform the budgeting process, initiate the office of intergovernmental affairs, and restructure the organization.
He also said to staff “As you all know, you all work in public service, and as we do that, it’s our family and better halves [who] do without us at different times through our lives,” he said while taking a moment to thank his wife Andrea, who was in attendance.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Peabody says “Derrick has really set us on the path for good structure, good succession plan, and we know that Derrick has really set things in place for future success in Bruce County.”
Peabody also says that council members are excited to work with incoming CAO Christine MacDonald and new Deputy CAO Sean Morphy.
