Grey Bruce OPP are reminding you to properly lock up, check on your seasonal property frequently after a recent increase in the number of seasonal residence break and enters.
While police did not give specific numbers about the reported increase in break-ins, they are urging all seasonal property owners to ensure all valuable items and alcohol are removed from seasonal residences.
They say, “Small appliances and alcohol are often targeted by thieves as they are easy to steal and equally easy to sell for cash and drugs. Homes should be always locked.”
The OPP encourages seasonal property owners to have someone check your property daily during the off season to ensure everything is secure, noting, “This tried and tested method is the best deterrent against crime.”
They also continue to appeal to those living in and around trailer parks and cottages to report all suspicious activity to police when it happens.
OPP add, if you have security cameras, you can register them with the CAMSafe program. It will not give the OPP access to your security system but allows police to contact you if they’re investigating something your footage might be helpful with.
