Saugeen Shores police are warning people to stay off the ice shelves forming on Lake Huron.
They note, “These scenic shelves appear enticing to the adventurous, but can be deadly in an instant.”
They say the ice formations are created by water spray from high winds that freeze on already formed ice.
Police say, under each peak is a well that is obscured by unstable snow or ice covering. ”
They add, “A person can fall into these water wells and may have little chance of self or assisted rescue.”
