Georgian College’s Owen Sound campus is teaming up with the Nuclear Innovation Institute to help deliver the Project Management Program in our region.
Previously, the program was only offered at the Barrie campuses.
The version of the program that will be facilitated at the NII has also been tailored to help students get a graduate certificate closer to home.
“I’m thrilled,” says Owen Sound campus Executive Director Dave Shorey in an interview with Bayshore News. “We have a good relationship with the Nuclear Innovation Institute where we’re expanding a lot of educational opportunities in our region, and exploring different careers.”
The program has also been modified, to be a part-time schedule with evening classes two nights per week.
The program combines both in-person study and a parallel online component, so that if a student is unable to make it to class, they can still participate – whether it’s because of illness, weather causing dangerous driving conditions, or anything else that could get in the way.
“It adds a degree of flexibility,” says Shorey. “Because we know that people are busy managing different things [in their lives]. The way that we can offer this in a flexible format with a reputable credential at the end is something that is new to the area and something that’s really in high demand.”
He says that the program is perfect for anyone specifically looking to take a project manager role in their current job or to get some new skills to build upon existing post-secondary education.
Overall, Shorey says that faculty at Georgian and members from industry partners are excited to offer this course locally.
“It doesn’t really matter the sector. What I’m so proud of is that our campus in Owen Sound is a full-service campus that serves Grey Bruce and allows us to offer a program in another community in Grey Bruce and that we’re able to leverage the full-service capacity including accessible learning, counseling, and academic upgrading…We’ve got great relationships with multiple sectors and multiple employers saying that this rather rare post-secondary infrastructure… this is where we’re able to support them.”
Georgian College will be hosting two information sessions, one on March 7th, and the other on March 21st, to answer any questions prospective students may have, and will even waive the $125 fee if you apply to the course at one of the sessions for the May 2024.
The information sessions will be held at the Nuclear Innovation Institute, 620 Tomlinson Drive, Port Elgin. Those interested in attending can RSVP here.
