The Municipality of Kincardine has been given the go-ahead to focus on new Community Improvement Plan areas for this year.
In a recommendation given to council, staff are looking to focus on using funding to make façade improvements in both downtown Kincardine and downtown Tiverton.
Community Economic Development Coordinator Cherie Leslie says “Our proposal is that we’d work with Bruce County staff to administer the funding through their already well-established Spruce the Bruce program to offer façades, signage, patio, and accessibility improvement grants.”
In the 2024 budget, council approved $60,000 in funding for the Community Improvement program.
Municipal staff decided that downtown Kincardine needed some improvement to cap off the construction that happened last year, as a way to add finishing touches and to help with a more cohesive appearance.
Tiverton was only recently added to the CIP.
Guidelines have been provided by staff for facade improvement.
Leslie says that they’re also hoping to work with the county to help drum up more visitors and business for Tiverton.
“We’re also working with them on looking at starting an investment attraction piece as a second piece to this,” she explained to council. “But this would be another full program that we’d have to administer on our own, should we go that route.”
