A few thousand homes and businesses around the region remain without power this morning after a severe storm brought a brief burst of torrential downpour, hail and extreme winds yesterday evening.
While many in Owen Sound have their lights back on, Hydro One is still reporting some remaining outages in the city. There’s also a substantial outage reported near Oxenden, and several other smaller ones scattered around the region.
Bystanders in Owen Sound’s north-east end reported seeing a wall of rain and pea-sized hail around 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
A big tree was uprooted in Alexandra Park near St. Mary’s Hill, where a hydro pole was also split and lines knocked down.
There is also damage to the fence at Duncan McLellan Park’s south ball diamond, where two trees were knocked down — one uprooted and one split.
The storm left scattered branches and toppled countless trees around Owen Sound, particularly in the city’s north-east end.

Massive tree uprooted at park beside St. Mary’s hill in Owen Sound. Hydro pole and lines fallen as well. Also spotted a tree uprooted near Zehrs parking lot, and tons of tree debris/fallen branches around east end. Storm that passed through certainly had some punch. #ONStorm pic.twitter.com/Y9sZla8QrE
