Several local students will be heading to a provincial skills competition after qualifying in the regionals last week.
Nearly 30 students from across the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) took part in the Region Technological Skills Challenge at the Sydenham Campus, Georgian College and Owen Sound District Secondary School on Feb. 24.
This Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program initiative has students face off in various trades categories including welding, hairstyling, automotive, and carpentry.
The top three students in each category include:
Welding
1. Logan Kestner – Sacred Heart High School
2. Zacary Mullin – Grey Highlands Secondary School
3. Talan Hope – Sacred Heart High School

Hairstyling

The top three welding students from each school board will head to the 2025 Skills Ontario Qualifying Competitions in Barrie next month and for the BWDSB, these include Zacary Mullin, Wyatt Knowlton, and Alex Cameron.
The first place finishers in the other categories will advance directly to the 2025 Skills Ontario Competition in May in Toronto.
