It was an EF-1 downburst that hit Owen Sound last week when a severe storm passed through the city.
That’s the preliminary report from the Northern Tornadoes Project, which sent a survey team to Owen Sound after Thursday’s severe weather left massive trees uprooted, shingles ripped off some homes and knocked down or bent some hydro poles and light standards.
The downburst hit the city around 6:45 p.m. Thursday, June 13 and had maximum wind gusts of up to 155 km/h.
The Northern Tornadoes Project says in a social media post the damage extended along a 4.3-kilometre path, with a max width of 1.4 km.
Almost all of the trees & debris were down towards the east or east-north-east, they say.
“Witnesses said the downburst winds lasted 2-10 minutes, accompanied by heavy rain and some hail,” the Northern Tornadoes Project says on social media.
They will be releasing a full detailed event summary on the Owen Sound downburst and severe weather from last Thursday.
