Saugeen Shores council is directing its staff to consult with residents on the Port Elgin and North Shore Railroad proposal, which would see the return of a small train.
During a meeting on April 24, council received a report from its Committee of the Whole. It recommended supporting in principle the Port Elgin and North Shore Railroad proposal, as well as direct staff do conduct a consultation and return to council with the results.
This follows a public meeting held earlier this month discussing the future of the North Shore Park in Port Elgin.
A proposed plan for the return of a small train in the park continues to be explored with the proponent Scott Pearson.

If all proper approvals for the proposal make their way through the process, the goal is to have it up and running by summer 2025.
