Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) is celebrating the opening of the newly renovated Wiarton Hospital Emergency Department.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday with the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation and South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Garry Michi in attendance.
Substantial changes to improve patient flow, as well as renovating two new examination rooms, functional furniture, and new cabinetry were among the improvements completed. Additionally, the department will feature improved lighting and signage.
The Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation says in a release, the Wiarton ED provides urgent care to an average of 13,000 patients a year and the layout of the department has remained largely the same since the new hospital was built in 1994.
“A lot has changed in nearly 30 years which has driven the need for updating our facility,” says the foundation.
GBHS President and CEO Gary Sims expressed his thanks to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula for its $50,000 donation to support the renovation project, which contributed to the overall $500,000 price tag.
